Fendi
Fendi: history & brand profile

Fendi was founded in 1918, in a small shop in Rome, Italy, where Adele Casagrande sold leather and fur. After her marriage to Edoardo Fendi in 1925, they changed the name of the store to Fendi. They soon relocated to Via Piave in 1932, and thus, the family business began, which included five of the couple’s daughters, Carla, Anna, Franca, and Alda. When one of the Fendi daughters married into the Karl Lagerfeld family, Lagerfeld created the Fendi logo, which features two F’s, one right side up, the other upside down. Together, they revolutionized the fur, and transformed it from a heavy and stiff article of clothing to a comfortable, soft garment. By 1966, they hade already introduced their first ever couture fur collection. They quickly became a big success, and were introduced to the American population, garnering them an international reputation. The Fendi lines include Fendissime, also known as the “young” line, which was established with the effort of the five daughters and Karl Lagerfeld and the Zucca line, which features the Fendi logo. Fendi also has a clothing line, the prêt-a-porter. In addition, Fendi has lines in writing instruments, watches, sunglasses, perfumes, and of course, what they initially began with, furs. Fendi watches contain Swiss movements, and are mostly water resistant, and have genuine leather straps. Fendi sunglasses and glasses usually display the Fendi logo at the temples, have full UV protection, and are extremely chic and comfortable. Fendi handbags and Fendi purses, especially the Fendi spybag, the bucket bag, and the Fendi chefbag, have become so desired and popular nowadays, that there are waiting lists up to three years for them. For the women’s line in perfume, Theorema Perfume by Fendi features a musky, woody scent for the evening. For the men’s line in colognes, Fendi Cologne by Fendi also incorporates a woody scent with mixtures of citrus and pepper for casual use. Fendi produces casual shoes for both women and men, and even unisex shoes. The sneakers usually bare the Fendi logo either on the front of the shoe or on the side of the shoe.
