Sources & fact-check policy
Luxury Brands Online is an editorial reference, so the facts have to be right and current. This page explains where our information comes from, our independence and counterfeit stance, and how we preserve the original brand articles while adding current facts.
Where our facts come from
For each house we rely on the brand's own official site plus reputable references — Encyclopædia Britannica and The Business of Fashion — rather than rumour or resale listings. Founding dates, founders, ownership, and signature products are checked against these.
Independence & disclosure
We are not affiliated with any brand profiled and we are not a retailer. Where we add affiliate links to authorised retailers in future, they will be clearly disclosed; we will never link to counterfeit or 'replica' sellers.
How we treat the original articles
Each brand page keeps the original article preserved — the same wording and facts that were published on the earlier site — because that text is part of the record. We then add a clearly-labelled section, and we only make narrow fixes to the original itself.
- Original text preserved. We do not rewrite or paraphrase the historical article. We only de-glue formatting artifacts and fix obvious broken spellings.
- Dated leadership claims flagged, not deleted. Where the original named a then-current creative director who has since left or died (e.g. Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel), we leave the original wording in place and flag it beneath, with the current position.
- Ownership added. Each page adds the house's parent group today (LVMH, Kering, Capri, Tapestry, or independent), which the original omitted.
- Obvious names fixed. 'Dooney & Burke' → 'Dooney & Bourke'; 'Hermes of Paris' → 'Hermès'.
- No counterfeits. The original had a 'replicas' page; we do not reproduce it. That URL now points to our authentication guide.
