Dooney & Bourke
Dooney & Bourke: history & brand profile

Dooney & Bourke, a well known designer brand, began in 1975 and exists today as an extremely successful company specializing in the manufacture and distribution of accessories, including bags, purses, luggage, bracelets, watches, and even a clothing line and iPod cases. It competes with Coach and offers its customers “affordable luxury,” basically meaning designer bags and accessories, much like those produced by Coach but at affordable prices. Some of the handbags include collections such as: Alto, Hearts, Bolero Bag, Pebble Grain Leather, Tartan, Doodle, IT, Splash Denim, Carabao, Signature Hearts, Suede, Large Quilt, Glove, All-Weather Leather, Croco, Nubuck, Denim, Vintage, Signature, Bubble, Tattoo, Cavallino, Bumble Bee, and the Patent Leather. Among the collections, the IT is very popular, which is a multicolored bag displaying the Dooney & Bourke logo. The Alto Collection is one of the more expensive collections, because the bags in this collection are made of good quality leather, and handmade in Italy. The Bumble Bee collection is very colorful and playful, displaying bumble bees all over the bags. Within the bag collections, there are many different sizes and shapes that one can choose, including shoulder bags, bags with charms, mini bags, bucket bags, barrel shaped bags, tassel bags, totes, and many others. Dooney & Bourke has done very well amongst the younger crowd of customers, most especially teenagers and young women, who have showed a great interest in bags such as the Doodle Bag and the Bubble Bag. Dooney & Bourke handbags and other accessories are much more affordable than other designer brands; the price range falls in between $200 to $600 for most of the items produced. Dooney & Bourke charm bracelets are also very popular and well liked. The Bag Charm bracelet is priced at $95, while the regular Charm Bracelet is priced at $75. The bracelet line also includes the flower heart bracelet and alto circle bracelet, both priced at $35. Dooney & Bourke also offers duffle bags priced around $350, and rolling trunks at about $275. The Dooney & Bourke clothing line is limited; the line mostly consists of scarves, sweaters, and gloves. There is also a very small shoe line, consisting of cashmere slippers, rain boots, the paraboot boat for men and women, and all-weather leather boat shoes for both genders. The shoes are quite affordable, and most of them cost $95. They come in a variety of vivid colors, including denim blue, green, pepper, sand, sunset, red, and black.
